Transitional Menswear: From Summer To Fall

Although Austin, Texas is not located in fashion-forward Europe, it is safe to say that the personal style in the city is noteworthy. On any particular day, Austinites have their own representation of fashionable looks, taking personal style to a whole new level— and no, we are not only referring to women!

Over the past several years, Austin has seen an increase in men who blend the perfect amount of chicness with grunginess, lending itself to a city filled with unique personal style. Kudos to those who keep up with the current trends, while adding their own flavor to each look (DIY denim comes to mind).

Personal style is all about translating what you see and love into clothing, but it never hurts to get inspired by other fashionistas and fashionistos too. In particular, transitioning from summer to fall can be tricky and gives the perfect opportunity to be inspired by others.

The best way to beat the heat (and humidity) while simultaneously looking stylish is to sport a pair of chino trousers with a short-sleeved button-down or cotton graphic tee. While women live by the mantra “beauty is pain” many men prefer comfort by a landslide. Choosing a lightweight pair of chino trousers that are available in a multitude of colors make for an easy way to avoid heavy denim.

For a casual weekend look, well fitting shorts that hit just above the knee are an essential item for every man’s closet. Do not be afraid of patterns either! Combine these with a colorful pair of sneakers or even oxfords for the ideal weekend get-away look. Our favorite picks are the Cole Haan LunarGrand or a classic pair of Converse. Both are comfortable alternatives to the Chukka boot. For cooler nights, combine a long-sleeved shirt with the shorts and roll up the sleeves.

For a more dressed up look that makes for the perfect transitional summer-fall look, our go to item is a jacket. Instead of wearing a sports hoodie or even a cardigan, we love a lightweight jacket or parka that you can throw over any button-down and pants. Colors such as navy, black, charcoal gray and brown are always a safe choice for this type of garment because they go play well with most other colors. If you are feeling bold, try out the newest colors of the season: lilac, oxblood and taupe.

Ensuring a smooth transition into a fall wardrobe can be easy if you have garments that can be worn in countless ways. Whether it is that one jacket, that one pair of shoes or that one style of pants, dressing well becomes second nature when your wardrobe is filled with pieces that you are naturally drawn to and love. That’s really the key to developing your personal style. A well-curated closet makes dressing well a synch.
