Oscar Fashion Series – Wear These Trends Now! Part I: White and Beige

Watching the red carpet Sunday night at the Academy Awards was a blast. As usual, the trends followed those for Spring 2012.

Here’s a guide to incorporating the best trends from the Academy Awards and after parties.

White:

White is huge for spring. Think of it as a new basic. Magazines are pairing it with black, but I prefer to mix it in with more neutral colors. Think of it as a pop of color and a way to inject some balance into a look.

Look for a great pair of white jeans or trousers. If white on bottom isn’t best, opt for a cropped white jacket or high-quality tee. Pair these with your patterned skirts/pants and dark jeans.

When choosing a white denim, look for a close fit that allows the fabric to flow. Tight and white is not a great look. Also ensure the fabric is thick enough to hide any imperfections in the skin and that the pockets do not show through. (All things I point out as your stylist!)

A white bag is always fresh. I’m crushing on this McQ Alexander McQueen Clerkenwell Shoulder Bag:

Beige:

It’s safe to say Charlize killed it on the Golden Globe’s red carpet. She just looked flawless. This shade of beige/blush is perfect for her coloring. Similarly, Kristen Wiig chose the perfect shade for her skin and hair.

The key to wearing beige lies in finding the your perfect shade. Trust me, this color is so on trend right now that there are options for everyone. I’m partial to beige handbags. They’re a great counterpart to a colorful outfit (think of trading them with your black or brown bag). I love these bags. So chic!

Beige matches with several unlikely colors. It’s up to you to try them together and see what works. I love beige paired with gray, white, coral, mint and blue. The key here is matching the shades of these colors to your beige accessory or clothing item.
